
Today’s self-publishing options don’t directly level the playing field for writers; what they do is level the playing field for the mediators between a writer and their readers. As a result, there is greater access to the channels.
The cost-of-entry for those out there who can assist writers in taking advantage of the self-publishing model is significantly lower than for the traditional publishing market.
Writers must have access to these new skills – not necessarily possess them. This is true in the traditional publishing model, but in the emerging model those skills are spread further, and are more accessible.
