The SCAMPER framework is one approach to problem solving and brainstorming. It applies seven activities to the situation, and can be applied at either the macro or micro-level.
Substitute – entirely replace one component with another.
Combine – merge two components into one.
Adapt – modify a component.
Magnify – increase or decrease the scale or scope of a component.
Put to other uses – use a component for something different.
Eliminate – remove a component entirely.
Reverse – consider a component with the opposite effect.
Depending on the context, a “Component” could be a concept, a process or a physical object.
