Add “The Backfire Effect” to the number of ‘Internet hoaxes‘ that the more mainstream media are starting to report on, and it’s more of the same that any veteran has known for a long time.

a You never win an Internet argument with evidence;

b The good thing about the Internet is that anyone can publish anything;

c The bad thing about the Internet is that anyone can publish anything;

d Poe’s Law states that it’s often difficult to distinguish between parodies of any extreme belief and actual proponents of those extreme beliefs, since they both seem equally insane. See literallyunbelievable.org for more evidence.
